Affliated Research Centres

The NeuroDiverse Kids Research Hub advances understanding, inclusion, and support for children with neurodevelopmental differences such as autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities. We conduct research that bridges neuroscience, education, and community practice to shape policies and interventions that work in real-life, low-resource settings. Our focus is on helping families, schools, and communities recognize and nurture every child’s potential through evidence-based strategies, early screening, and culturally grounded awareness. By combining science, compassion, and local knowledge, we work to create environments where every child, regardless of ability, can learn, grow, and belong.

The Omo River Basin Endangered Cultures Centre is dedicated to safeguarding and revitalizing the fragile cultural heritage of communities whose languages, traditions, and identities stand on the brink of extinction. We document and archive oral histories, rituals, and indigenous knowledge systems while supporting community-led efforts to pass them on to future generations. Our work bridges elders, youth, and scholars in co-creating cultural learning materials, reviving endangered languages, and celebrating heritage through festivals and storytelling. By preserving the past, we strengthen cultural pride and ensure that the wisdom of the Omo Basin continues to inspire resilience and unity in a rapidly changing world.

The Omo-Turkana Basin Water Institute promotes research and innovation in groundwater sustainability, water sovereignty, and community-based water systems across the drylands of Eastern Africa. We work to understand and protect the Basin’s shared water resources through localized climate modeling, traditional ecological knowledge, and cutting-edge science. Our initiatives strengthen community capacity in water management, improve access to safe water, and support policy dialogue on transboundary resource governance. By integrating indigenous wisdom with modern technology, the Institute advances a vision of equitable, sustainable water futures for all who depend on the Omo-Turkana Basin

The Community Health Equity and Resilience Centre (CHERC) addresses neglected and emerging health challenges in low-resource and marginalized communities. Our work focuses on strengthening local health systems, promoting preventive care, and amplifying the voices of those often left behind in global health conversations. We conduct community-driven research on mental health, maternal and menstrual health, HIV/AIDS, and rare diseases, translating findings into actionable interventions. Through partnerships with local clinics, traditional healers, and public health institutions, CHERC fosters equitable, inclusive, and sustainable health solutions that build resilience and dignity from the ground up.

The Basin Climate Initiative advances climate governance, adaptation research, and local innovation to strengthen resilience across the arid and semi-arid landscapes of the Omo-Turkana Basin. We bring together scientists, policymakers, and community leaders to co-create solutions that respond to local realities while aligning with global climate goals. Our work spans climate education, indigenous knowledge integration, and the promotion of sustainable livelihoods that reduce vulnerability to droughts, floods, and shifting ecosystems. Through evidence, collaboration, and action, the Initiative seeks to empower communities to not only survive but thrive in a changing climate.
